The rate of exports in 2015 increasing by 8.1% compared with 2014 have been attributed by the National Trade Promotion Programme, however, in 2016, the programme need to be more effective, aiming to help businesses seek markets and expanding their relationships with foreign partners.
It was requested by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said at the recent conference in Hanoi to review the programme in 2015.
As reported by the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), in 2015, the National Trade Promotion Programme supported 8,850 enterprises to participate in the domestic and foreign exhibitions with 14, 499 booths.
Notably, about 213,300 economic contracts were signed with the total value of 858 million USD and approximately 637.8 billion VND while attracting over 3 million passengers to visit and go shopping.
"Through the programme, industry associations and trade promotion centers in localities nationwide have supported businesses in seeking and expanding markets, promoting local industrial products to the domestic and international consumers", Deputy head of the Trade Promotion Agency Ta Hoang Linh said at the conference.
In 2015, many trade promotion programmes were held in rural and mountainous areas, border and island to contribute actively and effectively in the implementation of the campaign "Vietnamese prioritise using Vietnamese goods", boosting trade, creating distribution channels to provide essential products and improving the life conditions for people.
Linh said the ministry approved 177 projects from 67 units for the 2016 programme, which will be implemented with 90 billion VND (4.05 million USD) sourced from the State budget. It aims to expand export markets, targeting those participating in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and the EU-Vietnam FTA (EVFTA), as well as member countries of the Eurasia Economic Union and others from the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
According to a representative of the Trade Promotion Agency, in order to achieve export growth of 10% compared with 2015, the programme will need to further promote the role of businesses and industries.
Addressing the conference, Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai proposed that the National Trade Promotion Programme 2016 should outline a detailed plan for the programme with the aim to contribute effectively to the country’s economic development.
The Deputy Minister stressed that the MOIT will improve quality of implementation of trade promotion activities at home and abroad, and strengthen the coordination between the Government management and trade promotion agencies.
