The number of international visitors to Viet Nam was estimated at over 7.8 million, representing a year-on-year surge of 4%, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Over 4.7 million foreigners came to the country for tourism and convalescence, up 2.6% against last year. Meanwhile, more than 1.32 million people arrived in Viet Nam for business (up 4.3%); 1.34 million others for visiting relatives (up 6.9%).
As many as 6.22 million foreigners travelled by air (up 4%); 47,600 people by sea (down 75.4%); and over 1.6 million on road (up 14.8%).
The number of Asian guests was over 5.3 million, posting a year-on-year growth of 4.5% of which those from the Republic of Korea was 848,000 (up 13.3%); Japan 648,000 (up 7.3%); Cambodia 404,200 (up 18.1%); and Laos 136,600 (up 11.2%). European guests numbered over 1.19 million, posting a big surge of 14.6%.
