Nha Trang welcomes first international cruise liner in lunar year
Volendam, a Dutch-based cruise ship carrying some 1,400 tourists, arrived in Nha Trang city’s port on February 8, becoming the first cruise liner to visit the central resort city in Khanh Hoa province in the Year of the Monkey.
Upon their arrival, five tourists who reached the land first received flowers and gifts, under the Vietnamese custom of “Xong dat” (first visitor of the year).
A number of 600 passengers took part in a tour around the city.
The ship is scheduled to leave Nha Trang at the end of the day.
In 2015, cruising showed signs of recovery with 48 ships visiting Khanh Hoa recorded. These boats brought 47,000 tourists to the province, an annual increase of 16,300 people. Traditional programmes, such as the city tour, the countryside trip and the Cai River tour, were the most popular options for visitors.
