North Korean officials taste banh xeo in Hanoi

Police force was mobilized to ensure security at the restaurant and surrounding area.

A North Korean delegation, composed of 30 members in Vietnam for the second summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un, visited a restaurant in Nguyen Du street, Hanoi to enjoy banh xeo, a local street food, VnExpress reported.

The 30 delegates use three rooms on the second floor of the restaurant. Police force was mobilized to ensure security at the restaurant and surrounding area.
The Koreans enjoy a variety of dishes, including abalone soup, spring rolls, green salad, fried spring rolls, Nha Trang grill beef, Lang fish, banh xeo, beef and papaya syrup.
Of the dishes, banh xeo – also known as crispy Vietnamese pancake, crepe or sizzling cake – is a famous street food which is widely believed to originate from France and brought to Vietnam during the French occupation. The word xeo depicts the sizzling sound when pouring the rice batter into the hot skillet.This “Vietnamese pancake” has a yellow outer layer and is filled with boiled pork strips, shrimp, bean sprouts and spring onion.

Earlier, another North Korean delegation, composed of 20 members, visited Ha Long Bay in a tour to several northern provinces.
The 20 delegates, including three politbureau members  Minister of People’s Armed Forces and Provincial Party Secretary of Gangwon Park Yong Nam took a cruise ride along Halong Bay and visited factories in the port city of Hai Phong on February 27.
