One more handicraft center in Hanoi certified

The center will add value to OCOP handicrafts and products, forging a value chain from design to production, distribution, and consumption.

Hanoi authorities on August 1 certified a center for design, production, and sale of OCOP (One Commune One Product) items and handicrafts in Phu Nghia Commune, Chuong My District.

Local workers at the Phu Vinh bamboo and rattan weaving village in Phu Nghia commune.

According to the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, this is one of 10 centers in the capital to meet the criteria and achieve a three-star rating.

The certification aims to boost production and develop product brands from Phu Vinh Village, which specializes in bamboo and rattan weaving in Phu Nghia Commune.

Members of the center will also preserve and promote the traditional cultural values of artisan villages, linking them to community-based, agricultural, and rural tourism, promoting a circular economy.

To support young designers and artisans, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade has urged the local authorities to take drastic measures, including taking advantage of local culture and the community's aspirations for economic development.

There are 175 craft villages in Chuong My District. Of the total, 36 villages are recognized as traditional craft villages in wood carving, stone carving, and embroidery. In particular, bamboo and rattan goods are produced in 27 craft villages, where 85% of the people are highly skilled artisans.

In Phu Nghia, all seven villages are engaged in bamboo and rattan weaving. The bamboo and rattan weaving industry has created jobs for a large number of rural workers and provided them with a stable income.

The recognition of creative design centers and the promotion of sales of OCOP products and handicrafts was initiated in 2023 to support rural industrial enterprises and handicraft businesses, contributing to the restructuring of the rural economy in Hanoi.
