Organising online seminar on meassures to limit traffic jam in Hanoi
The online Economic & Urban newspaper held an online seminar with the theme "Measures to limit the traffic jam" on September 24.
Attending the event were Luong Duc Thang, Deputy Head of urban management room, Hanoi Transport Department; Luu Xuan Binh, Deputy Chief of Hanoi's Traffic Safety Committee; Le Manh Hung, Deputy Chief Inspector of Hanoi Transport Department; Nguyen Van Tong, Deputy Head of Railway - Road Traffic Police, Hanoi Police; Nguyen Hoang Trung, Deputy General Director of the Hanoi Transport Corporation.
Speaking at the seminar, Le Manh Hung, Deputy Chief Inspector of the municipal Transport Department said that both subjective and objective factors cause the situation of traffic jam.
One of causes of traffic congestion is due to construction barriers at some key traffic projects of the city.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tong, Deputy Head of Railway-Road Traffic Police, there are a lot of factors causing the traffic congestion, namely: Drainage system does not meet the heavy rains, causing floods and obstructing traffic. The municipal infrastructure can not meet the rapid increase of private vehicles. Awareness of residents respecting the traffic laws is not high.
Participating at the seminar, delegates discussed measures and revealed concrete works in order to limit the traffic jam of the city in the recent times.
Hanoi's agencies, boards and departments have made their efforts to limit areas of traffic jam. In 2010, the city had 124 regular jam areas, but decreasing to only 46 points at present.
Inspectors of Hanoi's Department of Transport has allocated more than 600 officials to perform their tasks in all the districts. In addition, the Inspector force of the Department organised four interdisciplinary working groups to directly check and review the large spots of traffic jam.
Besides, the municipal Department of Transport has implemented many solutions to minimize the traffic congestion, including the expansion of street pavements and increasing the area of the intersections in the city.
In order to carry out the plan of "Year of traffic safety and order 2015", the city has asked wards, communes to actively implement measures to curb the trading of sidewalk encroachment.
Hanoi Department of Transport has cooperated with the municipal Police, local authorities, investors and construction units of projects to offer specific solutions addressing the traffic congestion. So far, the situation of traffic jam in the city has been minimized, only occurring traffic overload cases during peak hours.
Speaking at the event, Nguyen Hoang Trung, Deputy General Director of the Hanoi Transport Corporation said the company now accounts for nearly 80% market share of public transport of the capital.
In the past 10 years, the business has many solutions to "buy" routine of riding by bus of people, continuing to improve the service quality with the aim more residents choosing the vehicle, thus contributing to reduce the traffic jam in the city, Trung added.
