Hanoi city proposes to honour the best film on an urban topic at the upcoming fourth Hanoi International Film Festival, Director of the Hanoi Culture and Information Department To Van Dong said at a press conference in Hanoi on September 15.
The fourth Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) will take place from November 1 to 5.
The 4th HANIFF will feature about 550 films from over 40 countries and territories across the world.
Addressing the press conference in Hanoi on September 15, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien said the festival, themed “Cinema-Integration and Sustainable Development", will honour cinematographic works of high artistic and humane values.
Vietnam’s filmmakers will introduce their works at all the categories of the festival.
Apart from a top award worth 5,000 USD presented for the best feature film, the festival also honours other cinematographic works with awards for the best short film, the best feature film director, the best actors and actresses in leading roles, the best film on an urban topic and others.
Particularly, French director Regis Wargnier and actress Catherine Deneuve of Indochina, which won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, will attend the 4th Hanoi International Film Festival, according to the organising board.
The artists’ appearance at HANIFF celebrates the 20th anniversary of Indochine’s release. The movie was filmed in Vietnam in 1992, mainly in the central city of Hue, in Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh, and at Phat Diem Cathedral in the northern province of Ninh Binh.
The festival is expected to attract public attention, create a momentum for the Vietnamese film industry to develop and make opportunities for the Vietnamese film market to seek more partners, Deputy Minister Bien added.
During the 4th HANIFF, competitions, HANIFF campus, a film project campus, conferences and exhibitions will be organised.
Films to the festival will be screened free of charge in a number of movie houses in Hanoi.
