The activity aimed to mark the ‘Month for the poor’ and review 20 years of the campaign for the poor.
Nearly 100 organizations, agencies and individuals have registered their support worth VND17.2 billion for the Ho Chi Minh city Fund for the poor through an art performance titled “Joining hands to care for the poor” recently held by the city Fatherland Front and Television.
So far the city has built over 3,000 houses of gratitude; 23,000 charitable houses and repaired 12,500 others; granted 380,000 scholarships together with providing other equipment to pupils, from a total capital of over VND1.029 trillion, assisting tens of thousands of poor families escape poverty and stablise their lives.
According to the city Fatherland Front, there remains 105,000 poor and nearly-poor families in need of support.
To realise the program on building new style rural areas by 2015, the city targets housing and employment support for poor families in the suburbs to complete the poverty reduction program in the 2013-2015 period./.

On this occasion, the program also introduces the model how to care for the poor creatively and effectively and praised the efforts of the poor.
