The Vietnamese communities in many countries have organized various activities to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year.
More than 300 Vietnamese workers in the Republic of Korea gathered for a celebration in Hwaseong City, Kyeonggi province on January 24, which had all the traditional New Year decorations and food such as Cau doi (parallel sentences written on red paper), five-fruit tray and Banh Chung.
They were joined by labour management officials of both Vietnam and the RoK.
Also on January 24, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia hosted a New Year party in Phnom Penh for overseas Vietnamese.
Chargé d’affaires a.i Nguyen Trac Toan took the occasion to update the Vietnamese community on the development in the home country during the past year.
A similar event was organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in the Netherland on January 23 with the participation of Vietnamese students and local overseas Vietnamese.
At the gathering, Ambassador Nguyen Van Doan briefed the OVs on the progress of the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam which is underway in Hanoi.
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Foreign Ministry have cooperated with diplomatic representatives missions abroad to send an art troupe on a performance tour through Asia.
The Thang Long art troupe, with members being lecturers from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the Military University of Culture and Art and the Hanoi Cheo Theatre, performed to an audience of overseas Vietnamese in China’s Macau on January 24 and Hong Kong on January 23.
The troupe will travel to Japan’s Osaka City in the next leg of their tour.
