Phia Oac – Phia Den recognized as a national park

The Phia Oac - Phia Den National Park in Cao Bang province was recognised as a national park pursuant to a Government Decision.

This was announced by the Cao Bang People’s Committee on May 14. The national park stretches through the communes of Thanh Cong, Quang Thanh, Phan Thanh, and Hung Dao and the town of Tinh Tuc in Nguyen Binh district. The park has a total area of over 10,500ha, with its highest peak at nearly 2,000 meters above sea level. The Phia Oac - Phia Den National Park boasts fantastic natural and wild scenery.

The park preserves a virgin forest ecosystem in the high mountains and is home to nearly 2,000 species of rare animals and plants with many species listed in the world Red Book.
It is the first recognised national park of Cao Bang province and is expected to play an important role in preserving and promoting the sustainable development of the mountain forest ecosystem, aligned with boosting the local socio-economic development, security and defence.
“With this title, Cao Bang expects to preserve and foster the sustainable development of the Phia Oac - Phia Den National Park in accordance with the national strategy for forestry development,” Hoang Trung Thao, Vice Chairman of Cao Bang provincial People's Committee was quoted as saying.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has just signed a decision on the establishment of Phia Oac-Phia Den National Park to preserve typical ecosystem and biodiversity. The park is designated to ensure environmental security and mitigate land erosion and floods, thus helping to stabilise production and improve livelihoods of local people in downstream regions.
Scientific research and activities will be held to preserve and develop endangered genetic sources, rescue wildlife animals and raise public awareness of the protection of environment and biodiversity. Furthermore, actions will be taken to develop eco-tourism, thereby contributing to local socio-economic development.
The Phia Oac - Phia Den National Park is located in the system of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark, which has recently been recognised as a new member of the UNESCO Global Network of National Geoparks.
