Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung welcomed the first accredited Peruvian Ambassador to Vietnam Carlos Berninzon in Hanoi on May 13, during which he confirmed Vietnam’s wish to deepen cooperation with Peru in all fields.
The sound traditional friendship between Vietnam and Peru is experiencing positive progresses in various realms, especially economics with trade topping 300 million USD last year.
He suggested the two countries push ahead with the signing of an agreement on establishing an inter-governmental cooperation committee and completing other agreements to create a legal framework for bilateral cooperation.
The Government leader asked Peru to recognise Vietnam as a full market economy while actively working together in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
He welcomed Peru to open an embassy in Vietnam after 21 years of bilateral diplomatic relations, adding that Vietnam will consider opening an embassy in Peru.
For his part, Carlos Berninzon expressed his pleasure to be the first Peruvian Ambassador to Vietnam , saying his country hopes to boost cooperative ties with Vietnam across sectors.
He also highlighted the huge investment of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group and the military telecom group Viettel in his country, saying Peru welcomes Vietnamese businesses to study cooperation opportunities and attend the international trade fair on food slated for August 2015 in Peru.
He pledged to work with Vietnamese agencies to accelerate the establishment of the inter-governmental cooperation committee and hoped Vietnam would open its embassy in Peru soon.
He suggested the two sides work together to successfully organise the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum to be hosted in Peru in 2016 and Vietnam in 2017.
