On February 13, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung discussed over the phone with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe.
The two PMs expressed their delight at the strong development of bilateral relations in 2014 and affirmed close coordination to further develop bilateral ties for mutual benefit, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in Asia - Pacific region and the rest of the world.
They emphasised the importance of enhancing exchange visits on a regular basis, particularly those at senior levels and effective implementing bilateral cooperative and dialogue mechanisms.
PM Dung said that the two sides should closely cooperate in implementing high - level agreements on economic cooperation, including Vietnam’s industrialisation strategy in the Vietnam-Japan cooperation framework. He urged Japan to help Vietnam restructure its economy, improve competitive edge and develop the support industry and agriculture.
PM Abe stated that Japan will strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation with Vietnam and continue providing ODA for Vietnam’s socio-economic and infrastructure development, and coping with environmental and climate change issues. He was committed to closely cooperate with and support Vietnam in its negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
The two PMs also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern and agreed to cooperate at multilateral forums and international organisations.
PM Abe expressed his concern over unilateral actions to change the status quo in the East Sea which is contrary to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and supported resolving issues in the sea in accordance with international law. He thanked Vietnamese leaders for their condolences on the death of a Japanese citizen killed by the Islamic State.
On the occasion, he conveyed Lunar New Year wishes to PM Dung and Vietnamese people.
