The PM made it clear that the Vietnamese government supports ADB’s comprehensive strategy to 2030, that helps member states deal with poverty, development gap and climate change, as well as promote their private sectors. Vietnam backs ADB’s continued reform of operations and personnel work, he said, adding that the Vietnamese government and the State Bank of Vietnam also value the implementation of the 2016-2020 Country Partnership Strategy between ADB and Vietnam.
He hoped that Mr. Eric Sidgwick, with his experience and renowned competence in macro-economic stabilization and economic restructuring, will provide realistic consultancy and help Viet Nam in devising and realizing sustainable policies.
The Vietnamese Government will continue stabilizing the macro-economy, controlling inflation, accelerating growth, enhancing the development of the private sector, upgrading the infrastructure and responding to climate change, the PM asserted, asking for the assistance from the ADB to assist Viet Nam in overcoming difficulties and challenges. The Government advocates the ADB’s Strategy 2030 to support member countries to address issues related to poverty, imbalanced development and climate change, he said.
Sidgwick, for his part, lauded Vietnam for stabilising its macro-economy, which he said, reflects the government’s capability. ADB is ready to share experience with Vietnam in the time to come, particularly in infrastructure, response to climate change, enhancing competitiveness, development of the private sector and macroeconomic policy consultation, he stated.
Viet Nam has been highly appraised by the international community for its socio-economic development over recent years, said Mr. Eric Sidgwick, announcing that the ADB is launching programs in Viet Nam in such areas as sustainable development, infrastructure, environment and climate change.
The two sides talked about activities to celebrate the 50thfounding anniversary of ADB (December 19, 1966) and the 20thanniversary of the establishment of ADB representative office in Viet Nam (December 19, 1996) as well as the future visit of the ADB President to Viet Nam. He said the 50th founding anniversary of ADB and the 20 th anniversary of launching its representative office in Vietnam is a chance for both sides to review and improve their roles in the region.
