PM urges to give timely support for affected people from mass fish deaths
Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc has required relevant ministries, agencies and provinces to implement comprehensive measures to deal with mass fish deaths along the central coast.
Accordingly, the PM urged the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to work with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the People’s Committees of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue provinces to calculate damage and give timely support for affected people.
PM Phuc asked the Ministry of Science and Technology to coordinate with competent agencies in mobilising scientists to promptly find out the causes behind the fish deaths, ensuring they are done objectively and scientifically.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Heath were required to instruct the localities collect and treat dead fish to ensure environmental hygiene.
According to the order of the PM, the agriculture sector will coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to guide the localities and residents how to breed, catch and use fish in a safe manner.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is responsible for providing official information on the case for press agencies.
The Ministry of Public Security will focus on collecting documents and evidence relating to this case and strictly punish any violations found in conformity with legal regulations.
On April 30, the Office of the Government issued Document 70/TB-VPCP containing conclusions by Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung following his working visits to Quang Binh and Ha Tinh to inquire into the impact of the mass fish deaths.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the State Bank of Vietnam are required to immediately set up working groups to be posted in Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien – Hue for coordination with local authorities to deal with relating issues that may arise.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is assigned to quickly figure out the causes behind the incident with support from foreign consultants.
