President Truong Tan Sang attended Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda`s inauguration yesterday in the northern border province of Cao Bang`s Dam Thuy commune.
Sang has attended a number of ceremonies during his visit to the province for the Viet Nam People's Army's 70th anniversary and the 25th All People's Defence Day. Late President Ho Chi Minh founded the Viet Nam People's Army in Cao Bang on December 22, 70 years ago.
Construction on the traditional Vietnamese pagoda overlooking Ban Gioc Waterfall started in June 2013. Individuals and organisations donated the VND18 billion (US$857,000) required to build it.
Sang also attended an opening ceremony for a new resort in the commune, Sai Gon-Ban Gioc.
The 31-ha, four-star resort developed by Saigon Tourist Holding Company houses 80 hotel rooms, villas, a 200-seat conference hall and a recreation area.
The resort was built on a historically significant site as part of a programme started by HCM City and Cao Bang province.
At the ceremony, Sang commended the contractors' efforts, saying the facilities would enhance the spiritual and material life of local residents and turn the Ban Gioc area into a key national tourist site.
