On August 2, President Tran Dai Quang hosted a reception for Cambodia’s Senior Minister and Minister of Cults and Religion Him Chhem in Hanoi.

At the meeting, the President stressed the need for the two countries to boost religious cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks. The State leader hailed the cooperation between Vietnam’s Committee for Religious Affairs and Cambodia’s Ministry of Cults and Religion in delegation exchange and human resource training.

He suggested the two agencies should stay active in implementing cooperative programs and raise efficiency of cooperation in religious affairs, helping stabilize  the border situation between the two nations. "It is essential for the two agencies to continue offering favourable conditions for the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam and that of Cambodia to  strengthen delegation exchanges and support each other in monk student training," Sang told his guests.

President Quang spoke of the effective collaboration between the Vietnamese Government Committee for Religious Affairs and the Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religion, saying that collaborative activities have helped to intensify the exchange of information about religion and religious policies as well as experience in State management on religion.

He asked the two agencies to continue creating favourable conditions for the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam and that of Cambodia to speed up delegation exchanges and support each other in monk student training.

For his part, Senior Minister Him Chhem affirmed that the Cambodian Government and people always bear in mind the support of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers to help Cambodia escape from the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime in 1979 so that it could revive and develop as it is today. No hostile forces can distort that truth, and disunite the time-honoured friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam, he added.
