President Sang: Viet Nam-Japan agreements on track to succeed

President Truong Tan Sang welcomed Chairman of the Budget Committee of the Lower House of Japan Toshihiro Nikai in Ha Noi, saying that agreements reached by the two countries` leaders were being carried out smoothly.

The State leader said Viet Nam and Japan had gained mutual trust in various fields, particularly in politics.
He noted that the two sides were working together in defence-security and economics-trade, while their tuna-fishing co-operation off the coast of central Viet Nam had made important strides.

Viet Nam had also completed procedures for the establishment of a Japan-Viet Nam university, he added.
The Japanese representative thanked the host country for creating favourable conditions for the school, which he deemed a symbol of their friendship. He asked for more support from Vietnamese leaders for Japanese agencies and enterprises operating in Viet Nam as well as his country's hosting of the Olympics and Paralympics.
The legislator said Japan, as a close friend of Viet Nam, always supported the country and was willing to help it improve traffic infrastructure.
At the meeting, Japanese parliamentarians applauded effectively implemented co-operation projects and touched upon the potential of working together in crop and animal husbandry as well as negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement.
Peace and prosperity
Viet Nam always treasured ties with Japan and would spare no efforts to promote its partnership for mutual interests as well as for peace and prosperity in the region and the world, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said yesterday.
Receiving a delegation of Japanese parliamentarians led by Nikai in Ha Noi, Hung expressed his delight at the growing strategic partnership between the two countries and their parliaments.
"There is room for both countries to increase our partnerships in culture, health care, security and defence," he said.
Thanking the Japanese Government and people for supporting Viet Nam's socio-economic development, especially through official development assistance (ODA), the top legislator pledged that Viet Nam would use this source effectively.
He also spoke highly of Japan's strong support condemning China's illegal deployment of the Haiyang Shiyou-981 oil rig and a large fleet of escort ships in Viet Nam's waters in early May.
He said he hoped that Japan would continue backing Viet Nam's stance on strictly abiding by international law and ensuring trade and maritime safety and freedom, while not letting peace, stability and co-operation in the region be threatened.
For his part, Nikai said the delegation's visit aimed to deepen co-operation between the two parliaments and peoples, especially in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.
Japanese parliamentarians would do their utmost to develop bilateral ties in the future, he said.
