Program on climate change put into reality

PM Nguyen Tan Dung on Wednesday presided over the 4th meeting of the National Committee on Climate Change to review the work in 2013 and define key missions in 2014.

PM Dung asked ministries, agencies and localities to promptly promulgate and implement Resolution No. 24/NQ-TW of the Party Central Committee on actively coping with climate change, increasing natural resources management and protecting the environment.

“Mechanisms on climate change response should be updated, supplemented and finalized”, said PM Dung.

The host leader also requested his inferiors to improve disaster forecasts; compose scenarios on climate change impacts; prioritize financial sources; mobilize social resources; build anti-flood projects in urban areas; and ensure the safety of reservoirs.

PM Dung emphasized that besides spending the State budget ministries and agencies should pay attention to mobilizing social resources and strengthening international cooperation to learn experience from other countries on response to climate change, sea level rises and environmental protection.

In 2014, the National Committee on Climate Change would focus on key tasks including reviewing, updating and adjusting strategies and plans of ministries and agencies in accordance with Resolution No. 24/NQ-TW.

In addition, mechanisms and polices on green growth and climate change response would be realized. The goals of green growth and climate change response would be incorporated with socio-economic development plans at local and ministerial levels.
