Launched on June 10, the center powered by a team of scientists, researchers, and AI specialists based in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, is an integral part of Qualcomm’s global AI research network.

It will focus on developing generative and agentic AI solutions for smartphones, personal computers, extended reality devices, automobiles, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

The center will also help train local talent, foster academic collaboration, and contribute to Qualcomm’s global product roadmap and Vietnam’s AI industry development.

Alex Rogers, President of Global Affairs at Qualcomm, praised the quality of Vietnamese AI experts, noting the country now ranks among the world’s top 20 in terms of talent. He emphasized the abundance of well-trained professionals educated both domestically and abroad as a strong foundation for Vietnam to become a regional hub for AI and semiconductor development.

The US tech giant has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its investment in Vietnam, to nurture the country’s talent pool in Al and semiconductors, he said.

Qualcomm expressed its willingness to collaborate with Vietnamese enterprises to develop a domestic semiconductor and AI ecosystem.

Speaking at the launch event, Deputy Minister of Finance Le Tan Can encouraged Qualcomm to continue pioneering AI research, expanding applications across sectors, and deepening long-term partnerships with Vietnam.

Tan also called for closer cooperation between Qualcomm and Vietnam’s National Innovation Center, leading technology firms, and top universities to help build a skilled AI workforce in the country.

Qualcomm currently has two representative offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as its first R&D center, which was established in the capital city in 2020, the first in Southeast Asia.

The company is also recognized for the Qualcomm Vietnam Innovation Challenge, an annual program that supports local tech startups with financial, technical, business, and intellectual property assistance.

In a meeting with Qualcomm's President of Global Affairs Alex Rogers on the same day in Hanoi, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, welcomed Qualcomm’s ongoing investment in its current projects and encouraged further growth in AI and semiconductor technologies. He emphasized that this would be a critical contribution to transforming Vietnam into a regional and global center of innovation.

To Lam called on Qualcomm to accelerate technology transfer and support Vietnamese enterprises in global value chains while encouraging Qualcomm and other US firms in Vietnam to support the two countries' bilateral trade negotiations and help foster stable, sustainable economic and investment partnerships.

The general secretary reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to providing optimal conditions for domestic and foreign businesses, including US companies, to operate efficiently and sustainably within the country.
