This was the result of an agreement on information technology and telecommunication cooperation during 2017 - 2020 signed by the two sides on November 18, 2017. After four months implementing the project, Viettel invested in installing 37 public Wi-Fi stations at public administrative centres and tourist attractions, including Cua Viet beach, Quang Tri ancient citadel, Vinh Moc tunnel, Hien Luong bridge, Lao Bao International Border Gate, La Vang Sanctuary, Road 9 and Truong Son National Martyrs’ Cemeteries.
Through the VND2 billion (US$88,100) system, locals and tourists can gain free access to the Internet to search for information or use public administration applications.
It is also expected to help promote the image of Quang Tri to tourists, and open up business opportunities for enterprises and organisations which want to popularise their information. The Wi-Fi system also acts as one of the important foundations to build a smart urban area in the time to come.
Quang Tri is located in the centre of Vietnam, where has National Highway 1A intersects with Highway 9, which is the leading bridge of the East-West Economic Corridor through Lao Bao International Border Gate, linking Vietnam, Laos and other countries in the region.
Coming to Quang Tri today is coming to the historical memories of the Great War that the Vietnamese people have experienced in the twentieth century; feeling the beauty of the sea, forest, island of the Central coast. A new and attractive journey to Quang Tri legendary land is waiting for visitors to explore.
In 2016, Quang Tri strives to attain a 3.4% increase in tourist arrivals compared with 2015; total tourism receipts estimate VND1,4 trillion (US$62 million), according to Quang Tri Department of Culture, Sports and Toursim.
