Raising kindness in each student

On November 20, we hope to receive love from our students, who are always adorable.

Principal of Nghia Tan Primary School Le Thi Thanh Thuy shared with us her pride and honor to be named as one of 168 outstanding teachers in 2017: “teaching is a job respected by society and parents, while we are always received love and affection from students. Not only on November 20, but also in other days, we are very happy and full of love”.

With the trust from parents when given the tasks of teaching their children, teachers at the Nghia Tan Primary School understand their responsibilities but also a privilege, especially when Vietnams’ education is going through the reform process. As such, teachers are also changing their role from purely teaching knowledges for students to realizing potential in each student.

Currently as many think teachers are under huge pressure from the society, as well as being scrutinized for their mistakes, so that in order to do their job well in the new context, teachers must be determined and dedicated. However, Thuy has a different view:”as students are more mature each day and with higher reqruiements from the sociey, for us teachers, we must always be creative and improve our works, so we do not have pressure. If you do not improve your works daily and be creative, then you cannot teach students efficiently”.

Thuy did what she said. As the effort of Nghia Tan Primary School in continously reforming the management and teaching process have been acknowledged by the Ministry of Training & Education, as well as of Hanoi leaders. Since 2009, Nghia Tan Primary School has been taking care of poor students. In the beginning of each school year, the school has set up list of students in need of special treatment (in case of limited financial capabilities, autism, disabled, or hyperkinesis) to have appropriate support.

“For poor student, the school encourage teachers to support 2- 3 students. Every year, I always support 1 – 2 students in difficult situation to give books or tuition fees” – Thuy said. In case of students in need of special treatment, the school recommends techers to give free tutorials. Thus, students will understand knowledge more better and improve their academic results.

Besides, every year in Moon Festival, or Lunar New Year, the Nghia Tan Primary School often prepares gifts for students in poverty. Thuy got into emotional when talking about students got ill and being treated for long time. With their parents’ permission, the school initiated campaign to support their family overcoming difficulties. Thus, this will also raise the kindness among students in the school. We are very suprised when the school and students have collected more than 70 million VND to support a student in serious sickness. Another student also recieved 140 million VND as his mother has cancer and father is very sick.

As each student is cared for, students with autism is being tutored to improve their academic results. Thuy is very sincere and dedicated to the student development. We hope that what Thuy and other teachers in Nghia Tan Primary School have done will be acknowledged by the society, and more and more students will be supported to realize their dreams in the future.
