Russian PM to visit VN

Russian PM Dmitri Medvedev will pay an official visit to Viet Nam from April 5-7 at the invitation of PM Nguyen Tan Dung, the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

The two countries set up diplomatic ties in 1950 and upgraded the bilateral ties to comprehesive strategic partership in 2001.
During Party Genera l Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to Russia last year, both sides agreed to raise two-way trade volume to US$7 billion by 2015 and US$10 billion by 2020. Russia pledged to speed up Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between Viet Nam and the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Both sides concurred to speed up negotiations for a cooperative agreement on expanding and modernizing the Dung Quat Oil Refinery.
In the area of nuclear power, Russia said it will cooperate closely with Vietnam in the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant construction project by helping the country build a legal framework for project implementation and training Vietnamese managers, engineers, and experts.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the two countries emphasized the need to resolve maritime disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) toward finalizing a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
