The event held both offline and online, was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and the Hung Yen Provincial People’s Committee, drawing the participation of local and foreign delegates from 21 countries and territories on July 15.
Hung Yen has been growing longan in 4,500ha with an estimated output of 55,000 tons this year, an increase of 20% compared to the previous year.
Among the areas, more than 1,300ha have been applied the Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGAP) for yielding high-quality products for domestic consumption and export.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said the bumper longan output in 2021 is good news for local growers in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic affecting production and business activities. “However, how to sell the product is a headache,” he added.
Nguyen Huu Nghia, Secretary of the Hung Yen Provincial Party Committee affirmed that the province will create the most favorable conditions for domestic and foreign businesses to do business with the province’s longan and agricultural products.
He emphasized the province will continue to restructure the agricultural sector in association with the building of new rural areas, synchronously deploying solutions for production, distribution and consumption of local longan and agricultural products.
A representative from the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam affirmed that the mission is willing to help sell longan and other agricultural products to China.
The Chinese Embassy in Vietnam will strengthen trade promotion activities of Hung Yen in Chinese provinces, creating favorable conditions for the customs clearance of agricultural products and encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Vietnam agro-industry.
Deputy Minister Hai emphasized the MoIT will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and relevant units to create a mechanism to encourage, form and replicate the agricultural value chain model from production to consumption.
