Disciplinary measures were taken against high-ranking officials, showing the Party`s determination in corruption crackdown.

The Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Inspection Commission has proposed the Politburo – the country’s most powerful body - take disciplinary actions against a number of senior officials, including an admiral and vice defense minister.

In the meeting on May 29-31, the commission proposed to sanction admiral Nguyen Van Hien, former deputy minister of defense, and deputy admiral Nguyen Van Tinh for their misdemeanors in the management of military-owned land.

Another official on the proposed punishment list is Deputy Minister of Finance Huynh Quang Hai, who was blamed for breaking party members’ code of ethics.

Director of Son La’s Department of Education and Training Hoang Tien Duc was proposed to be disciplined for his responsibilities for the frauds made at the high school exam in 2018 in the province.

Meanwhile, the commission imposed disciplinary penalties to some officials.

Under the Vietnam Communist Party’s Statute, there are four levels of disciplinary actions against wrongdoing members, including reprimand, warning, demotion and expulsion.

The commission issued the warning for Pham Van Thuy, deputy chairman of Son La People’s Committee, who assumed responsibilities for the province’s high school exam in 2018; applied reprimand for Cam Van Thuy, former party chief of Son La; and asked incumbent Party Chief of Son La Hoang Van Chat to make selfcriticism.

In the last meeting ended April 26, the commission proposed disciplinary measures against many officials, mostly those in Military Zone 9 for breaking regulations on land management and some deputy ministers of transport for violations of regulations on privatization.
