Seven works won top prize in Vietnam National Press Awards 2016

On June 21, to celebrate the 92nd anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - 2017), Vietnam Journalists Association was held the eleventh National Press Awards for outstanding press works.

The meeting also saw the presence of, President Tran Dai Quang, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Politburo member and National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman; former NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung; as well as Politburo members: Nguyen Thien Nhan, President of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh Municipal Party’s Committee.
Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Tran Dai Quang extended his warmest congratulations to journalists and those working at press agencies nationwide on their traditional day. President Tran Dai Quang has hailed the Vietnam revolutionary press for its great contributions to the struggle for the national independence and liberation, the cause of national construction and defence, as well as the country’s overall achievements.
In addition, President Tran Dai Quang stressed that over the past 92 years, many generations of Vietnamese journalists have promoted their role as vanguard revolutionary soldiers of the Party and State in the cultural-ideological front. The country always remembers the exploits of journalists-soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of their fatherland and for the happiness of the people, he emphasised.

According to PCC member, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association and Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan (People) newspaper, Thuan Huu, stated that over the past year, press agencies were active in popularising the major contents and the implementation of Party and State’s resolutions, as well as documents issued by the Government and the NA.
He noted with pleasure that the press has provided full coverage of the country’s current political and socio-economic situation, as well as it’s international relations, while establishing itself as an open and trusted forum for the people of Vietnam.
The press has also promptly sourced and praised exemplary models, as well as contributing to the fight against corruption and helping to consolidate people’s trust in the Party and State, he added.
This year’s National Press Awards received more than 1,630 entries, the highest number recorded compared to previous editions. The organising board presented 7 A, 24 B, 39 C and 25 consolation prizes to the best entries in four categories of printed and online media, radio and television. Journalists from Nhan Dan newspaper were honoured with two A, one B, three C and one consolation prizes.
