South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon on July 8 offered apologies to visiting Vietnamese Minister of Public Security To Lam over an assault by a Korean man on his wife during three hours, Yonhap reported. "It is very unfortunate," the PM said and expressed his regret about the domestic violence case.

In the previous meeting with Vietnamese Minister of Public Security To Lam, Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency Min Gap-ryong pledged a thorough investigation and rehabilitation for the victim.
The South Korean husband yesterday appeared before the court in Gwangju city, South Jeollan province, one day after being arrested by police for beating his 30-year-old wife.
The 36-year-old suspect was accused of beating his wife in front of their two-year-old son for three hours at his home on July 4.
The video posted last Saturday showed him slapping his wife in the face, kicking her and repeatedly punching her in the head and stomach as she crouched in a corner in Yeongam, South Jeolla province, Korea Times reported.

The husband has been taken into custody. The police added child abuse to the charges against him since the assault occurred in front of the child.
The police said the reason for the assault was the wife poor Korean proficiency. The suspect reportedly told them he was drunk when he assaulted her.
The Vietnamese woman started dating the Korean three years ago, and returned to Vietnam when she was pregnant, according to police. They reunited last month and have lived together since then, according to media reports.
The incident shocked the South Korean public these days and on the Naver site, a Korean search engine, the violence on the Vietnamese wife is ranked 9th among the most searched words.
South Korean people condemned the husband’s assault, and even submitted their online applications to the South Korean Presidential Palace, asking to punish the suspects deservedly.
