Start-up from protective equipment

“When start-up, it would be best if you can find a market segment without competitor or just a few to compete. A location for start-up is also important as it must be suitable with the field you are working on to get the most advantage of it. Let’s do business with your heart and start learning, soon you will reap your success”.

This is the message of the 32 year- old Chairman of Board Vuong Cong Van of the Thien Bang Commercial Investment JSC to anyone who dreams to be successful.

In 2008, he graduated from the Electric Power University with major in electric engineer, he then pursued a second degree at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology from 2008 to 2013. In his time working in electricity field, he has witnessed many cases of workers died because of accidents and without protective equipment. Bearing this in mind, he got his business idea of selling protective equipment. In 2010, he started his first store with 30 million VND and 5 employees. The company then developed into Thien Bang Commercial Investment JSC. He said: “at first, me and my wife had to go to provinces such as Nam Dinh and Vinh Phuc to find suppliers, and then to advertise to companies with 20 kinds of protective equipment products such as clothes and shoes”. With products of high quality, the company started attracting a lot of customers. In these years, the company had gained enough profits to pay for the rent and employees’ wages.

In order to improve products’ quality, Van pushed forward with research and created new products with high quality, which are suitable with each working position. With this being said, the company has created its own competitive edge with regard to price and quality comparable to imported products. Besides, he also took advantage of modern technology, so that customers can order products through website. The company is more and more well-known and gained attention. In 2013, the company has had 200 kinds of products for both in domestic market and export, with revenue of 15 billion VND per year.

In 2014, the company aimed to foreign markets and received profit of 25 billion VND, by 2016 the number has increased to 30 billion VND with an increase of 15%. At present, his company has 2 facilities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, one manufacturing facility in Vinh Phuc with more than 100 employees, in which 3 disabled staffs and 1 female worker with HIV. The average wage of his employees is 5 – 7 million VND per month.

Besides his focus on sustainable business and production, Vuong Cong Van is pioneer in encouraging works to participate in charity works, as well as to have preferential policies for workers with difficult lives. For him, his favorite moment is to pay wage for his employees, as he can feel their happiness. “I feel happy when I hear someone is building his house or a new motorbike” – Van said.

After 7 years of start-up, with determination, dedication and talent, Van has brought successes to his company. The company has become one of the biggest companies in Vietnam in protective equipment, with customers being big companies in Vietnam as well as from Japan or the US. However, he is still working to develop his own brand of protective clothes, so that workers can feel comfortable and increase their productivity, in turn improving their living standard and taking his company to be the best in Vietnam.
