State president visits survivors of military helicopter crash

The soldiers survived the tragedy, but currently are in critical condition, slipping into a coma and suffering multiple injuries.

State President Truong Tan Sang on July 7 visited survivors of a helicopter crash in Hanoi’s outlying district of Thach That, who are receiving intensive care at the National Burns Institute.

They are suffering from severe burns covering as much as between 50-70% of their total body surface area.
The State President asked doctors to try as much as they can to save the soldiers.
A Russian-built Mi-171 helicopter carrying a total of 21 soldiers on a parachute training mission crashed in Thach That commune at around 07.30am.
Sixteen soldiers were confirmed dead at the scene, and five others were seriously injured.
The injured were taken to military hospitals nearby for emergency treatment, and three died shortly after that.
Authorities launched an inquiry to identify the cause of the crash. Initial investigations show technical faults were to blame for the tragedy.
