The visit aims to strengthen ties between the Congress, thereby contributing to further promote relations of traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The delegation had meetings with President of the Algeria-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group Hocim Maaloum and President of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Algerian People’s National Assembly Belmdedah Nour-Eddine. They also paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly Ghamia Idalia.

At the meetings, the Algerian side briefed the guests on the new points in the country’s revised constitution adopted by the Algerian parliament in February. These included enhancing women’s presence in the parliament and public agencies and improving role of legislative bodies.

They affirmed Algeria’s external policy of supporting the settlement of any dispute based on peaceful negotiation, respect for nations’ territorial integrity and protesting against violation, terrorism and racial discrimination.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese delegation informed their host on Vietnam’s achievements after three decades of Renewal Process (Doi Moi) and the outcomes of the 12th National Party Congress early this year.

The two sides agreed to ramp up high-level parliamentary delegation exchange as well as experience sharing in law making. They also planned to boost bilateral cooperation in energy, agriculture, oil and petroleum, tourism and transportation.

According to the diplomat, Algeria exports dates and olive oil to Vietnam while importing rice and coffee. For his part, Mr. Bougherbal, Chairman of Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate of Algeria praised Vietnam’s development achievements and hoped the bilateral relations would serve as a good foundation for the two sides’ enterprises to set up partnerships.

He also expressed his desire to send a business delegation from Blida to Vietnam to learn about investment opportunities in Vietnam and introduce the province’s potential and strengths to Vietnamese partners.

The two sides agreed to focus on investment cooperation in the fields of garments, footwear, telecommunications, and fertiliser, as Vietnam has strong potential and good experience while Algeria also wants to attract investment in these fields.
