In her address, Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi, speaker of the Federal National Council of the UAE highlighted women as the center of social development and as major investors in peace and international security.

This year’s Summit themed “United for Shaping the Future”, will discuss the role of parliaments and women parliament speakers’ involvement in addressing challenges to social progress and prosperity.

At the opening session, delegates listened to a message of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and speeches delivered by UAE Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Interior Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, which highlighted the role of women in the world’s people-elected bodies in improving people’s lives, promoting fairness and issuing policies for sustainable development.

The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Saber Chowdhury said women, accounting for 50% of the global population, play an important role in changing the world and addressing a range of challenges including poverty reduction, terrorism, and climate change.

At a meeting with Minister of State for Tolerance of the United Arab Emirates Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi the same day, the Vietnamese NA leader praised the UAE for its good preparations for the summit, saying it will contribute to elevating UAE’s position in the international arena.

"Vietnam sticks great importance to its friendship and multifaceted cooperation with the UAE, one of Vietnam’s important trade, investor and labor partner in the Middle East. UAE is Vietnam’s 7th largest export market," Ngan said.
