The most famous sweet soups in Hanoi

You can try Hanoi’s sweet soups whenever you like; however, you can find it difficult to enjoy the real taste of green sticky rice, baked sticky rice and banana, longans or lotus seeds.

Sweet soup is a Vietnamese term that refers to any traditional Vietnamese sweet beverage, dessert soup or pudding. Varieties of Sweet soups are made with mung beans, black-eyed peas, kidney beans, tapioca, jelly (clear or grass), fruit (longan, mango, durian, lychee or jackfruit), and coconut cream.
Other types are made with ingredients such as salt, aloe vera, seaweed, lotus seed, sesame seed, sugar palm seeds, taro, cassava and pandan leaf extract. Some varieties, may also include dumplings. Sweet soups are often prepared with one of a number of varieties of beans, tubers, and/or glutinous rice, cooked in water and sweetened with sugar.
The preparations are named with the addition of qualifying adjectives referring to a wide variety of distinct soups or puddings which may be served either hot or cold. Each variety of chè is designated by a descriptive word or phrase that follows the word sweet soups, such as red bean sweet soup. Sweet soups may be made at home, but are also commonly sold in plastic cups at Vietnamese grocery stores.

Being originated as a rustic gift of autumn, this type of sweet soups is usually served hot.  It has a tasty flavor of baked banana, coconut milk and green sticky rice which is fried until gold and crisp. You can enjoy this dish at some sweet soup shops on Hang Than Street, Cau Dong and Doi Can at the price of VND20,000 per bowl.
Although the shop bases on privately way of the end of Nguyen Binh Khiem street, more and more customers still come here to enjoy sweet soup. Its price is VND15,000. Address: 35B Nguyen Binh Khiem Str., Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi.

Fresh lotus seeds and white sweet longan meat have made this dish not only rustic but also noble. In Hanoi, longans and lotus seeds sweet soup is the first choice of customers coming to Dinh Coffee. You can also enjoy it at 1A Bat Dan, No.4 Hang Can, 93 Hang Bac. Its price is VND20,000 per glass.

Grapefruit sweet soup is a favourite food of many people coming to Hanoi because it is sweet and easy to eat. When you enjoy, you will feel deliciously crunchy grapefruit pulp, scented green bean and fat sweet coconut milk.
This dish has been varried basing on different combinations such as Thailand grapefruit sweet soup or grapefruit and corn sweet soup and so on. You can try grapefruit sweet soup just after 2 p.m. till evening  at some famous shops located on Cua Bac Street, Hang Giay, Lane 9 Hoe Nha, Ba Trieu street or Ngo Sy Lien market, etc. The price is about VND15,000 per bowl.
