The Prime Minister asks for urgent measures to improve traffic safety
The Prime Minister issued Notice No. 1095/CD-TTg on June 24 to direct relevant ministries, sectors and localities to implement urgent measures to ensure traffic safety in the third quarter this year.
According to the notice, the Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Transport to direct the attached units to coordinate with the authorities of the relevant ministries, branches and localities in examining accident-prone sites along the National Road 1 and the HCM road and take actions to correct them.
The Prime Minister assigned the Transport Ministry to address traffic "black" spots, manage the traffic operation in the construction projects to avoid accidents for people and vehicles in the areas.
The Government leader required relevant agencies to strengthen supervision in road sections with steep slope, sharp bends and landslide-prone spots along the key highways through central and mountainous provinces.
On-going transport infrastructure projects are required to ensure a safe environment during their implementation in a bid to prevent accidents among traffic participants in the areas.
The Ministry of Transport was also asked to tighten its supervision of the operation of means of transport both on roads, inland waterways and aviation.
The Ministry of Transport was instructed to strengthen inspection and supervision on safety ensuring of aircraft maintenance, flight operations and airports, and strictly implement regulations on security checks for passengers and goods at airports.
The Ministry of Public Security was requested to direct its subordinates to crack down on violations of traffic regulations particularly those concerning speeding, alcohol uses, overloaded trucks, expired vehicle registration, as well as corruption.
The Ministry of Public Security was also asked to early use data extraction from system in highways of Ninh Binh - Cau Gie and Phap Van - Ninh Binh to supervise and handle violations of the law order and traffic safety as prescribed.
The Ministry of Information and Communication was required to instruct the media to update new regulations on traffic safety and transportation, thus raising public awareness of traffic accidents and consequences.
The Government also requested the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee to promote implementation of the campaign "All people participate in ensuring traffic order and safety", mobilize the participation of cadres and members, union members to voluntarily abide by law and order and traffic safety, and build traffic culture.
The Prime Minister also asks central-level cities to work closely with relevant ministries and sectors on increasing inspections and punishment of violations of traffic regulations.
Hotlines should be launched to receive feedback from citizens and to timely provide assistance or consultation on traffic management.

The National Traffic Safety Committee is to expeditiously implement the measures on the Plan for advocacy, prevention and handling violations in alcohol use for drivers on roads by 2016.
