Three killed in Can Tho shoe shop fire

A large fire broke out inside a shoe shop on Nguyen Trai Road of Can Tho city early on July 6, gutting the shop and killing three family members of the house.

The shop, rent to sell fashion shoes, was said to catch fire at around 02.00am, and six hired staff sleeping inside managed to escape the flickering blaze through the rooftop.

However, the owner of the house, retired colonel Doi Phuong Trieu, his wife and their daughter - a policewoman – got stuck in the thick smoke and roaring flame as the rolling steel door was shut.
Trieu’s son, who is also a policeman, was not staying at home when the incident occurred.
It took fire fighters three hours to put out the fire.
Relevant agencies were identifying the cause of the disaster.
