Partners take interest in Vietnamese goods introduced at the the 21st Southern African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX), which closed in Johannesburg on June 24.
Vietnam’s trade office in South Africa had a pavilion at the fair actively marketing Vietnamese rice, which resulted in at least seven importers asking Vietnamese businesses to submit offers and one partner, making a substantial purchase of rice.
A significant number of Vietnamese companies signed cooperation deals with South African partners at the 21st Southern African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX), which closed in Johannesburg on June 24.
In addition, Mega Corp Trading, which specializes in importing consumer goods for major supermarkets in South Africa, expressed a keen interest in Vietnamese products.
The company’s director Prem Sadhwani requested a meeting with Vietnam ambassador to South Africa Le Huy Hoang to discuss the signing of rice contracts and the opening of a South African representative office in Vietnam to develop enhanced relations.
Director of the Botswana Investment and Trade Center (BITC) extended an invitation for Vietnam to participate in the Botswana Trade Show 2014 in Gabornone from November 17-19 and expressed his desire for the Vietnamese ambassador to South Africa attend the opening ceremony and deliver the keynote address.
Overseas Vietnamese (OVs) communities in South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana and Swaziland also met the Vietnamese delegation during the SAITEX to discuss future cooperation activities.
Vietnamese Ambassador Hoang expressed his delight at the positive response from South African businesses and other nations in the region towards Vietnamese goods, noting that there is great trade potential among Vietnam, South Africa and nations in the region, which should be fully tapped for their mutual benefit.
The Ambassador called on Vietnamese businesses to learn more about the South African market and consumer’s tastes and invited South African businesses to conduct a survey in Vietnam to promote sustainable cooperation between the two nations.
