The document said that Hoa Lac, Lien Chinh, Binh Minh and Viet Nam were the firms which have not submitted their operational reports since last October. Their badges have been invalid for three to six months but they have not applied for extension of validity.
The department would revoke the operating licences of these firms if they fail to submit their reports by Friday.
Colour code for badges
Earlier, the municipal Department of Transport had proposed to the Ministry of Transport about issuing special colour badges to taxis operating in the city to curb illegal taxi firms.
Nguyen Quoc Hung, director of the department, said the move would help to curb taxi firms which have badges registered in other provinces and are operating in the city, causing traffic chaos and congestion due to the increase of the number of cars on the roads.
He said the department has also asked for a reduced validity period of the badges. The taxi firms would have to return the old badge to the local departments before receiving a new one.
Khuat Viet Hung, head of the ministry's Transport Department, said that specific colour badges for taxis in big cities such as HCM City and Ha Noi was a good idea.
Figures from the department showed that Ha Noi has 107 taxi firms, namely 105 companies and two cooperatives, with a total number of 17,000 and 20,000 drivers respectively.
Ha Noi has suspended the granting of licences to new taxi firms since 2012.
