The day was declared by the United Nations as an occasion to call for the attention of the international community on the fact that solutions for the Palestine problem have not been found and the Palestinian people are still struggling to achieve self-determination, independence, and sovereignty.

At the ceremony, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Kamal Malhotra read the message of UN Secretary-General António Guterres which noted that “Only constructive negotiations between the parties, in good faith, with support from the international community and adhering to long-standing United Nations resolutions and long-agreed parameters, will bring about a just and durable solution, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states”.

Also at the event, Chairman of the Vietnamese Committee for Solidarity with the Palestinian People Ho Anh Dung extended the congratulation message of Party General Secretary, President Nguyen Phu Trong to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas. The message reaffirmed Vietnam’s position to always support the righteous struggle of the Palestinian people for their inalienable rights as a nation.

In his remark at the event, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Vietnam Saadi Salama expressed his gratitude for the support of Vietnam and stressed that it is time for the countries across the world which believe in the two-State solution and which have recognized Israel to also recognize the State of Palestine.
