Unique vegetable gardens of Hanoians

It’s common for Hanoians to grow vegetable on rooftop yard, pavement… However, they are applying more innovative model that planting on embankment of roads or lakes.

At the Buoi Road, near Dinh Cong Lake, Tai Trau Lake in Hanoi recently, people start to turn the embankment chain here into green space.
“Here, we try our best to have the clean vegetable garden, despite factors like vehicle fumes, polluted air. However, we still feel secured when eating these vegetable in the wake of Vietnam’s bad-profile of food safety”, Mr Tuyen, a local resident said about these special gardens.

One year ago, when the Ring 2 was completed, the 1-km embankment opposite the alley of 462 Buoi Road (Ba Dinh District) was designed in form of beehive shape to avoid landslide.

First, they have to reclain virgin soil, eradicate all the bush around and dig every holes.  Then they fill those hole with new soil and seed.

With an unremarkable “investing” fund and some labor to buy soil, fertilize and seed; the residents got an unique garden, which supplies fresh and clean vegetable.

According to Mrs Nguyen Thi Au, a local resident,  she skip in here 2-3 times/day to take care of the vegetable here. The “little garden” not only supply clean vegetable to her family, but as a pursuit for her in old age days. Farming helps to boost her health.

People use only organic fertilizer and tap water for planting so they feel very safe when enjoying vegetable from those “gardens”. Even then, some passer-by impressed by the verdure ask for buying, Mr Tuyen, another local resident said while fertilizing.
