As scheduled, from March 27, the airline will launch an additional four round-trip flights on each air route. The new flights to Singapore will depart at 7:25 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, while the reverse flights will begin at 11:25 pm on the same days.
Meanwhile, the flights to Taipei will leave at 2:05 am on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays; and those returning to Ho Chi Minh City will take off at 10:10 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The plan will help increase the airline’s total flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Taipei and Singapore to 11 and 25, respectively. Four-star Airbus A321 will be used for all these flights. Vietnam Airlines was recognised as a 4-star airline for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017 by the international air transport rating organisation Skytrax. It targets a 13% increase in revenue and an 8.3% rise in the number of passengers in 2018. Apart from Asia, the airline is also seeking to expand its markets in Europe.
Vietnam Airlines announced its estimated 2017 revenue at VND88,400 billion (US3.8 billion), or a 23.5% increase year-on-year. Particularly, the total revenue of the parent company Vietnam Airlines Corporation alone has been estimated at VND66,200 billion (US$2.9 billion) with pre-tax profit of VND1,550 billion (US$67 million), or a 8% increase against 2016. Its State budget contribution has nearly doubled to over VND1,900 billion (US$83 million) during the year, according to a Vietnam Airlines report.
In 2017, Skytrax, a UK-based consultancy firm which runs an airline and airport review and ranking, placed Vietnam Airlines 14th among 20 carriers offering the world’s best premium economy class experience. It is the second year in a row that Vietnam Airlines has been listed among the top global 50 by Skytrax. In addition, Vietnam Airlines has been named as the world's leading airline in the premium economy class and the world's leading cultural airline at the World Travel Awards 2017. Vietnam Airlines’ premium economy class seats are currently available for flights to France, UK, Germany, Australia, and Japan.
