Vietnam airlines has held an ceremony to welcome the 200 millionth passenger, marking an important milestone after more than 20 years of establishment.
As such, the 199,999,999th, 200,000,000th and 200,000,001st passengers are 3 special guests in the flight No. VN223 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh, which landed to Tan San Nhat airport on 10h10 a.m. on December 5, 2017.
The 200 millionth passenger is Nguyen Truong Chinh, 199,999,999th passenger is Ngo Huy Hoang and the 200,000,001st passenger is Phan Thi Thu Hang. All three passengers have Vietnamese nationality. As a special guest, Nguyen Truong Chinh will receive a gift of 200,000 miles and 02 two ways tickets to Europe. Ngo Huy Hoang and Phan Thi Thu Hang will receive each 100,000 miles and 1 two ways ticket to Europe from Vietnam Airlines.
General Director of Vietnam Airlines Duong Tri Thanh said: “200 million passengers after more than 2 decades of establishment is an important milestone for Vietnam Airlines. This achievement is attained through the trust of the airline community and hundreds of millions of passengers from Vietnam and international for our effort and development in years”.
In period 1995 – 2017, Vietnam Airlines has conducted safely more than 1.6 million international and domestic flights; carrying 200 million passengers with an average growth rate of 11% per year.
Total revenue in 22 years of Vietnam Airlines is 777 trillion VND, with an average growth rate of 15.62% per year, revenue before tax is 18 trillion VND, as such Vietnam Airlines has been operating with profit for 22 years and contributes more than 41 trillion VND to the state budget.
This result showed the important role of Vietnam Airlines in Vietnam’s economic development, which is the bridge to efficiently connect trade, culture and politics between provinces/cities in Vietnam and between Vietnam and international.
Also at the ceremony, Vietnam Airlines has officially launched the social campaign “Love journey”, with an aim to search for projects to improve living conditions and making society to become better. Participants in this campaign will get free tickets from Vietnam Airlines in every trips to work on their projects.
Previously, Vietnam Airlines has been awarded as Asia Pacific Airline of the Year 2017 by CAPA’s Aviation Awards. APA's Aviation Awards for Excellence are intended to reward airlines and airports that are not only successful but have also provided industry leadership in adjusting to a new environment.
This award is to the airline that has been the biggest standout strategically during the year, has had the greatest impact on the development of the airline industry, has established itself as a leader, and provided a benchmark for others to follow. Vietnam Airlines was selected for its rapid growth, high level of profitability and successful partial privatization. Vietnam Airlines completed listing shares on Hanoi Stock Exchange under the stock code HVN in January, 2017 becoming one of the first state owned enterprises in Vietnam to partially privatize. In addition to the public float, Japan’s All Nippon Airways Holdings acquired a 8.77% stake in Vietnam Airlines in 2016 as part of a new strategic partnership.
