Vietnam among leading destinations for Asia-Pacific travelers in 2018

Vietnam and South Korea are among leading destinations for Asia-Pacific travelers in 2018, rising two spots in the rankings since 2017, according to a list released by Skyscanner, a global metasearch engine.

According to the report of Skyscanner, Vietnam has been named among the strongest destinations in Asia-Pacific, with two cities that aren’t traditional major travel hubs.
For example, Ho Chi Minh City grew by 7% year-on-year in searches, far behind Nha Trang and Da Nang. In fact, Nha Trang ranked well above others in a data reflecting top emerging cities, taking top spot at a record 154% year-on-year growth, followed by Jeju (43%) and Vladivostock (35%).
Earlier, Vietnam has been named among the five underrated Asian markets that could be home to the next unicorn, according to a list released by Travel Daily Media, a fast-growing online community dedicated to informing, connecting, and developing the world’s travel industry professionals.
“Vietnam is a country that cannot be ignored as it is one of the fastest growing markets in the region. They say that Vietnam is the new Thailand as the latter is slowly joining the ranks of Singapore and Hong Kong,” Travel Daily Media wrote.
Skyscanner’s annual APAC Travel Trends Report 2018 covers a wide range of Asia – Pacific markets, including Japan, Singapore, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Taiwan (China), among others.
The number of foreign holidaymakers to Vietnam in the 11 months of 2018 is estimated at 14.1 million, a 21.3% increase from the same period last year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).
