The forum attracted nearly 500 delegates from 103 political parties and organisations from over 20 countries worldwide, discussing the people’s role and power in protecting revolutionary achievements and topics regarding culture, youth, sports, the environment and gender equality.

In his speech at the opening session, Quan shared the “people-oriented” experience and lessons by the Communist Party of Vietnam over the past 86 years. He expressed belief that the forum will make more important contributions to strengthening solidarity among left-wing Parties and revolutionary movements across Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the sidelines of the forum, Quan chaired a talk featuring the outcomes of the 12 th National Party Congress of Vietnam and the socio-economic achievements Vietnam has gained during the 30 years of conducting renovation. He also held bilateral meetings with delegates of the Communist Party of Cuba, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, the Sandinista National Liberation Front of Nicaragua, the United Left Movement of Dominica, the Peruvian Communist Party and the Labour Party of Mexico to discuss ways to boost ties.

During the visit, Quan had a meeting with President of El Salvador Sanchez Ceren and held talks with Secretary General of the National Liberation Front Party (FMLN) Medardo Gonzales. The Vietnamese official affirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance on ceaselessly strengthening friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two Parties and peoples in the spirit of mutual trust and support.

Quan expressed hope that the ruling FMLN will direct relevant agencies to back Vietnam’s bid for a seat at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2016-2018 tenure and to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021. He also urged the El Salvador government to recognise Vietnam as a market economy as soon as possible.

The host leaders expressed wish to further all-around bilateral cooperation and pledged to work closely with Vietnam at multilateral forums. Earlier, Quan also met President of the Export and Investment Promotion Agency Sigfrido Reyes and Minister Roberto Lorenzana, during which the two sides discussed measures and mechanisms to boost economic, trade and investment ties.

Salvadoran speakers like Dr. Angel Ibarra, MP Manuel Flores, economist Beat Smith presented reports on Vietnam, focusing on analysing history, politics, and society and the country’s various achievements in the reform process. According to Salvador Orellana, Coordinator of the Vietnam-El Salvador Parliamentary Friendship Group and a member of the FMNL, El Salvador will hold similar events on Vietnam in the provinces of San Vicente, Morazan and Chalatenango.
