At a press conference prior to the summit, Doan briefed international delegates on Vietnam’s important achievements in its socio-economic development in recent years.
She revealed that Vietnam has fulfilled and surpassed six out of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations (UN), including the goal for gender equality, and noted that Vietnamese women have made substantial contributions to the fulfilment of these goals.
Doan stressed the need to create more opportunities for women throughout the world, thus promoting the advancement and equality of female citizens in all aspects of society.
The 24th GSW, which is the largest global forum to promote women’s role and prestige, will feature the theme “Women: Redesigning Economies, Societies”.
It has attracted over 1,000 delegates who are female leaders, businesswomen, government officials and NGO leaders from more than 70 countries worldwide.
The participants are expected to share strategies to advance women’s economic lives and ensure global prosperity.
