A Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) delegation is participating in the 105th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland from June 6-10.
The delegation, led by VGCL President Bui Van Cuong, on June 6 attended the conference’s plenary session and heard reports on protecting women’s labour rights and boosting gender equality around the world.
Cuong held a working session with General Secretary of the World Federation of Trade Union (WFTU) George Mavrikos, during which he thanked the WFTU for its support for Vietnam.
The Vietnamese official met with President of the Lao Federation of Trade Union (LFTU) Pan Noymany. They agreed to strengthen ties between the VGCL and the LFTU.
On June 7, Cuong held talks with Tomoko Nishimoto, the International Labour Organisation’s Regional Director for Asia- Pacific as well as trade union leaders from Belarus, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
Protecting women’s labour rights is the priority of WTFU action programmes and will be further discussed at the 17th World Trade Union Congress to be held in South Africa in October.
