Vietnam becomes one of major tourism markets of South Korea: KTO

Nearly 34,000 Vietnamese tourists visited South Korea on MICE tours with the support of KTO in the first half of 2019.

In recent years, Vietnam has become one of the leading sources of tourists to South Korea, Hanoimoi newspaper reported, citing the representative of the Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) at the conference on MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Event) tourism of South Korea in Hanoi on July 11.

According to the report of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), the number of South Korean arrivals to Vietnam in the first six months of 2019 was estimated at 2 million, up 21.3% year-on-year.

The KTO’s report showed that nearly 34,000 Vietnamese tourists visited South Korea on MICE tours with the support of KTO in the first half of 2019,  a 25% increase from the same period last year. Therefore, Vietnam has been viewed as a major market for MICE tourism development of South Korea.

The conference in question drew the participation of about 200 delegates and aimed to serve as a bridge for MICE service providers of South Korea and travel firms of Vietnam, thus creating new tourism products and boosting the number of MICE tourists of the two countries. South Korea will change its visa policy to stimulate the growth of MICE tourism in the coming time, said the KTO.

Half a million Vietnamese tourists visited South Korea in 2018, a rise of about 41% over 2017. Meanwhile, Vietnam welcomed nearly 3.5 million South Korean holidaymakers, a surge of 44.3% year-on-year.

In the first five months of 2019, Vietnam welcomed nearly 1.8 million visitors from the RoK, up 22.4 percent over the same period last year. The RoK has become the second biggest tourist source market of Vietnam, after China.
