The Vietnamese Buddhist Association in Japan held a grand ceremony in Tokyo on May 4 welcoming the United Nations Day of Vesak 2014 (Vesak 2014).
Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese ambassador to Japan, Doan Xuan Hung described Vesak 2014 not only as a festival for Buddhist followers but also an occasion for overseas Vietnamese in Japan to meet and strengthen their connectivity within the community.
The ambassador expressed his heartfelt wish that followers and monks always enjoy a happy and moral life, helping enhance cross-cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between the peoples of Japan and Vietnam.
Most Venerable Yoshimizu Daichi at Nisshinkutsu pagoda conveyed best wishes to overseas Vietnamese, and Buddhist followers. The Most Venerable expressed his delight at the association’s effective operations and wishes for the association to more strongly develop, making important contributions to the development of Vietnamese Buddhism in Japan.
Nun Thich Tam Tri at the pagoda was moved that so many overseas Vietnamese arrived at Nishinkusu pagoda to attend the Vesak 2014’s grand ceremony, saying it highlights the Vietnamese invaluable tradition in remembering their roots even though they live away from the homeland.
