At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has requested promoting the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation mechanism and the conference on cooperation and development among Vietnamese and Cambodian border provinces. Phuc expressed his delight at the regular exchange of all-level visits, extended links across the fields of trade, investment and tourism and vibrant cooperation between ministries, agencies and localities of Vietnam and Cambodia.
The PM hailed the outcomes of talks between the Cambodian foreign minister and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and suggested the two foreign ministries hold events celebrating the 50 th founding anniversary of bilateral ties (June 24) in various forms, thereby educating young generations about the tradition of friendship, solidarity and mutual support fostered by predecessors.
He also asked the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to assist in removing difficulties faced by Vietnamese nationals living in the country, particularly those related to their legal status, so that the overseas Vietnamese can have a stable life and contribute to the host country’s socio-economic development and the friendship between the two countries.
The host urged increasing cooperation between the two countries in multilateral frameworks, particularly the ASEAN, noting his hope that Cambodia would continue to express its stance together with ASEAN member states on the East Sea issue, with a view to consolidating ASEAN’s role in regional security as well as the ASEAN Community.
For his part, Sokhon said his visit is to push forward bilateral friendship and solidarity, as well as all-around links between Vietnam and Cambodia. He informed his host that the two foreign ministers have agreed to intensify extensive ties between the two countries and hold celebrations for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year.
