Vietnam consumer spending rises 11.3% in Jan - Sep

If excluding the price factor, the growth rate was 8.8% during the period, higher than the rate of 8.76% recorded in the same period in 2017.

Total retail sales of consumer goods and services reached an estimated VND3,235 trillion (US$138.25 billion) in the first nine months of 2018, up 11.3% against the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

In September, revenue from retail sales and services stood at VND374.8 trillion (US$16 billion), up 1.3% month-on-month and 12.5% year-on-year, totaling VND1,110 trillion (US$47.43 billion) in the July - September period, up 3.8% against the previous quarter and 12.5% year-on-year.

On breaking down, retail sales of goods in the nine-month period gained an estimate of VND2,400trillion (US$102.56 billion), accounting for 75.2% of the total and increasing by 12% over the similar period last year. 

Estimated sales of accommodation and catering services in the January - September period attained VND396 trillion (US$16.92 billion), accounting for 12.3% of the total and moving up by 8.4% from the same period last year. 

​Sales of tours in nine months of this year achieved an estimate of VND30.3 trillion (US$1.29 billion), making up 0.9% of the total and climbing by 16.9% against the similar period last year.

Sales of other services during this period was estimated at VND375.7 trillion (US$16.05 billion), representing 11.6% of the total and increasing by 9.7% compared to the comparable period in 2017.
