Vietnam, Google strengthen ties on quantum technology
Vietnam and Google will establish a joint task force to initiate projects focused on quantum technology, AI development, and digital transformation.
THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam has called for deeper cooperation with Google on quantum technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital skills training in order to advance its national digital transformation and innovation goals by 2045.
This idea was discussed during a meeting on July 17 between Pham Duc Long, Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, and Doron Avni, Google’s Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy for the Emerging Markets region.

The ministry also urged Google to assist in training civil servants, the public, and especially small and medium-sized enterprises in digital skills.
It expressed interest in collaborating with Google on smart city solutions, particularly easing urban traffic congestion using Google Maps data, with its traffic light optimization project.
The Ministry of Science and Technology has tasked its Department of International Cooperation to serve as the liaison for the upcoming collaboration with Google.
During the meeting, the ministry requested that Google support the development of quantum laboratories and provide technical expertise to help shape Vietnam’s AI strategy.
Google’s vice president reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sharing global AI expertise and supporting policy development. He cited Google’s collaboration with the UAE to train 55,000 government employees as a reference model.
Google also proposed supporting human resource development through expert exchanges and study tours for Vietnamese scientists to visit cloud computing laboratories in the US.
Avni emphasized the importance of enabling free data flows to spur innovation and digital growth.
At the meeting, Long stated that Vietnam is taking active steps to carry out Politburo Resolution No. 57 targeting growth through science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. This resolution is further supported by Resolution No. 71, which features over 300 specific action items.
The country aims to maintain an annual GDP growth rate of at least 10% between 2026 and 2035, with science, innovation, and digital transformation contributing 5% to the economy.
The National Assembly recently enacted key legislation, including the the Law on Science, Technology and Innovation, and the Law on Digital Technology Industry, to foster a more open and enabling policy environment.
