Vietnam has first-ever airport terminal built upon 4-star int'l standards

A new terminal in the Cam Ranh International Airport is designed to shape like a swallow’s nest – a specialty and symbol of Khanh Hoa province in central Vietnam.

The new terminal officially opened at Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa province on June 30. After 19 months of construction, the new terminal T2 was put use to ease the serious overload of Terminal 1. It will carter to international flights.

The operation of the new international terminal will not only reduce burden for the Cam Ranh International Airport which has been overloaded for years but will also improve infrastructure of the airport, said Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The.
The second runway of the airport is under construction and scheduled to be operational at the end of this year, he added.
Construction of the first phase of the new terminal cost more than VND3.7 trillion (US$164 million). It is the first airport terminal in Vietnam to be built upon 4-star international standards.The three-storey terminal sits on a site of over 50,000 sq.m.
The terminal is capable of serving 2.4 - 4.5 million passengers per year and after the second phase completes, its capacity can reach 6 - 8 million passengers per year by 2030.
On the inaugural day, two international flights to Hangzhou City, China and Incheon, South Korea departed from the new terminal in the evening of June 30.
The Cam Ranh International Airport is the main aviation gate to the popular sea resort city of Nha Trang, the central coast province of Khanh Hoa. In 2017, tourist arrivals to the city reached 5.5 million.
The number of passenger using Vietnam’s airports in the first half of 2018 was estimated at 52.8 million, a surge of 14% year on year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
Up to 223,000 flights were operated in the period, representing a rise of 10.6% year on year. The volume of cargo through the airports was 726,000 tons, up 9.4% from the same period last year.
