Vietnam – India: To promoting invest in shipbuilding

Cooperation in shipbuilding between Vietnam and India was the focus of discussion at a workshop jointly hosted by the Ministry of National Defence, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and the Embassy of India in Vietnam in the northern port city of Hai Phong on September 25.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador of India to Vietnam Parvathaneni Harish said that, 2017 is a landmark year in India – Vietnam relations as we celebrate 45 years of establishment of strategic partnership and the 25th anniversary of India – ASEAN relations. Bilateral relations between India and Vietnam are characterized by strong bonds of friendship based on cultural, religious and economic ties dating back to 2nd Century AD.
Last year, during the official visit of Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi to Vietnam, the relations between the two countries were elevated to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Strong defense cooperation is a vital component of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
As part of our celebrations to commemorate the event, two Indian Navy ships INS Satpura and INS Kadmatt are currently on the port call to Hai Phong City, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish note.
The current visit seeks to enhance maritime cooperation between the Indian Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy and will further bolster the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries and contribute to security and stability in this vital part of the world.
According to Director of the VCCI’s Hai Phong branch, Phi Van Duc said to continue expanding economic-trade-investment relations between the two countries, Vietnam has sent many senior delegations to India to study cooperation opportunities as well as welcomed a number of Indian delegations. India, with over 1.2 billion people, is a promising market for Vietnamese firms, he noted.
The event provided a chance for Vietnamese and Indian shipbuilding companies to meet and seek long-term partners. In addition expected to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in the regional and international integration so that they can expand their markets to India.
The same day, delegates visited an Indian naval ship anchoring at the Chua Ve port in Hai Phong City. Two Indian warships docked at Hai Phong's Chua Ve Port on Saturday for a four-day visit to the northern city.
The stealth frigate INS Satpura (F48) and the anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kadmatt (P29) carry a total of 645 officers and sailors, led by Captain Rahul Shankar, commander of the INS Satpura. INS Satpura is commanded by Captain Rahul Shankar and INS Kadmatt is commanded by Commander Nitin Cariappa.
